10 Verses For The Downcast Christian.

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

Are you discouraged, downcast and depressed? Wishing to be near God? Feeling like God has forgotten or forsaken you? Well, these verses and affirmations are here to remind you that God is not distant. His love is never far from you. 1. ♦ Psalm 42:5-6 ♦

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

Affirmation: I hope in God. Although my soul is cast down, I shall yet praise Him, for He is my salvation, my Lord and my God.

2. ♦ Jeremiah 31:3 ♦

The Lord appeared to me (Israel) from ages past, saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.

Affirmation: I am everlastingly loved by the Lord, He showers me with faithfulness and draws me unto Himself.

3. ♦ Hebrews 13:5 ♦

Let your character [your moral essence, your inner nature] be free from the love of money [shun greed—be financially ethical], being content with what you have; for He has said, “I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!” [AMP]

Affirmation: I am content, for God will never let me down, leave me without support or relax His hold over me.

4. ♦ Lamentations 3:22-23 ♦

It is because of the Lord’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, Because His [tender] compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great and beyond measure is Your faithfulness. [AMP]

Affirmation: I will not be consumed by dark nights, for the Lord’s compassionate mercy renews me every morning.

5. ♦ Psalm 34:18 ♦

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Affirmation: The Lord sees my broken heart, He will stay close and rescue my crushed spirit.

6. ♦ Deuteronomy 31:6 ♦

Be strong and ·brave [courageous]. Don’t be afraid of them and don’t be frightened, because the Lord your God will go with you. He will not ·leave [fail] you or ·forget [abandon; forsake] you.” [EXB]

Affirmation: I am not afraid because I know God has not forgotten about me. I am strong and courageous, for the Lord goes with me.

7. ♦ Matthew 11:29 ♦

Accept my teachings [Take my yoke upon you] and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit [heart], and you will find rest for your ·lives [souls]. [EXB]

Affirmation: My life is at peace, for I accept the teachings of the Lord. My soul finds rest in His gentle and humble spirit.

8. ♦ Zephaniah 3:17 ♦

For the Lord, your God is living among you. He is a mighty saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”

Affirmation: The Lord calms my fears with His love, for He is a mighty saviour. He delights and rejoices over me, forgetting all my past sins.

9. ♦ Matthew 28:20 ♦

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Affirmation: If anything, I am sure of this: God is with me always, even to the end of age.

10. ♦ Romans 8:35-39 ♦

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Affirmation: No power can separate me from the love of God. Not even my own fears or worries, absolutely nothing can separate me from the love of God revealed in Christ Jesus.
